Obituary of Richard Smith
RICHARD SMITH
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 4th, 2012, after a courageous battle with Brain Cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Norman O. Smith and Ann Marie Smith. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Meg of 41 years; his son, Andrew O. (Jennifer), and daughter, Kristen E. Smith; grandchildren Aiden O. and Brendan T. Smith; his two brothers, Rev. Dr. Graham (Sherry) Smith of Jersusalem Israel and Stephen (Stephanie) of Lincoln MA; nieces and nephews, Ryan (Krista) and Trina, Gabriel, Natasha, Elisa; great nieces and nephew, Ella, Tiana, and Boden.
He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force from 1963-1967. In 1971, he graduated from RIT where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Photo Science and Imaging. Dick's employment included Keuffel & Esser (K&E), Rochester Film, and many other companies since leaving Kodak in 2003. His latest employment was at Qualitrol until August 2011, as quality engineer. Dick was very active in many networking organizations including ABCPNG, SPNG, and The August Group, and was instrumental in supporting others in finding jobs. He was a long-time member of, and helped facilitate GRADDA (Greater Rochester Attention Deficit Disorder Association) meetings, a very active member of Church of the Epiphany, through choir, bell choir, vestry and many other volunteer activities at the church.
He had many hobbies, including participating in the G'n'O Model N-gineers Train Club, where he was an officer for several years. He also was a distinguished past president of the Kiwanis Club of Spencerport and was an active member until his passing. Dick also volunteered countless hours at Cameron Community Ministries as well as The Episcopal Senior Life Communities.
Dick will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandpop. He never stopped giving to others, and had a zest for life. He was an eternal optimist. All who knew him are so lucky to have been his friend.
Dick's visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday Novemeber 2, 2012 at the Church of the Epiphany, 3285 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624, where Dick's Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 AM.
