Fred enjoyed life surrounded by his family. Everything he did was centered around his wife, children and grandchildren. He never needed a specific reason to get together. Sunday's were always looked forward to by him. Nothing suited him better than a Sunday afternoon with family at his home for dinner or a cookout. He especially enjoyed Easter and Christmas. During Easter he found himself preparing the much anticipated treats he would make.
Fred served his country during WWII. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy. His pride didn't end with his discharge. The American Flag always graced the front of his home for all to see. He never went out without his USS Osage Navy hat, and many people would stop him, to thank him, for his service to his country.
Fred did enjoy travel. He would leave his home and head off across the country anticipating his final destination at the home of one of his dear family members.
He enjoyed his time spent working. While employed at Upstate Dairy he worked for them as a supervisor. He retired from Millbrook Bread in 1986 where he had worked for 20 years delivering bread.
He always enjoyed tinkering around the house. Fred was the go to guy when any of his children needed help remodeling or repairing something.
In earlier years Fred enjoyed golfing with his friends and family, but in his later years he spent time in his yard gardening and tending to his rose bushes.
Fred was an avid John Wayne fan. He had a complete collection of all of John Wayne's movies and never passed up the opportunity to watch one, even if he had seen it many times before. Like John Wayne, Fred lived his life with resiliency and to take life's challenges head on and never complain. His was a great example to his children and grandchildren.
