Obituary of Joan Williams

Williams, Joan (Lynn) Spencerport: January 13, 2016 at age 83. Predeceased by her sons, Kevin & Darryl Williams; brother, Richard Lynn. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Alvin Williams; children, Jackie (Tom Wulf) Williams, Teresa Williams, Mark Williams & Patrick Williams; grandson, Andrew Preston Williams; brother, Charles (Lois Studley) Lynn; many nieces, nephews and friends. After Joan retired from Jubilee supermarket in Spencerport she worked as a docent and volunteer at Seneca Park Zoo for over 10 years, which was something that she really enjoyed. Joan was a wonderful partner to Alvin and enjoyed raising her family and spending time with her friends. No prior visitation. A private Interment was held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seneca Park Zoo Society, 2222 St. Paul St., Rochester, NY 14621 or senecaparkzoo.org in Joan's memory. Joan was born on August 13, 1932 to Charlie and Ruth Lynn and grew up in Rochester and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High school. After high school, Joan worked at Kodak, Elgect Optical, picked apples, delivered newspapers, school assistant. She raised worms for fishing and worked at Jubliee Supermarket in Spencerport. Joan was a docent at the zoo. Joan was married to Al for 57 years. Joan helped to trap and release black bears in the Adirondacks. She enjoyed painting, arts and crafts and reading Stephen King suspense novels. Some of her other favorite activities included watching the Buffalo Bills, musicals, and turning the backyard into a wildlife sanctuary which included deer, skunks, raccoon, wild turkeys, wood chucks. Joan enjoyed listening to Bruce Springsteen, John Denver and Bluegrass music. Friends and family would best describe Joan as always living for her family. She would sacrifice everything to make sure her family had everything they needed. Home was the gathering point for all events and holidays. Joan always welcomed strangers in her home. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
