Obituary of Barbara Woods

Rochester: May 5, 2015 died unexpectedly from complications due to cancer. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edmund Woods; her sister, MaryAnne Domenici; nine nieces and nephews. Born in San Jose, California, she graduated from Notre Dame High School, and went on to earn her B.A. from San Jose University. Barb received her M.A. in English from the prestigious University of Iowa. She also studied the Organ at the world-renowned University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. She began her career teaching English and went on to become the head of the English Department in the Senior High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Eventually, career opportunities brought her to Western New York where she made her home in Spencerport, New York. In Spencerport, Barb opened "Barbara Woods' Piano Studio," where she taught private lessons to eager students for over twenty-five years. She served as MTNA President, as well as holding positions in state and local musical associations, where her dedication was distinguishable. Barb was dedicated to her piano students as they were to her. She cared deeply about their success at the piano, but also about their success in life. Barb was a great listener as well as teacher. She touched so many lives through her music. A Memorial Mass will be held on May 16, 2015, at St. John's the Evangelist Church, 55 Martha Street, Spencerport, New York at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at a private family ceremony in California on a future date. An avid animal lover, she had several charities she supported throughout her lifetime. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Rd., Fairport, NY 14550 or Scottsville Veterinary Hospital Adoptions, 3750 Scottsville Rd., Scottsville, NY 14546 in Barbara's memory.
