David was a true scientist, an unpretentious, generous, and joyful man who opened up the world of ideas to others. He graduated from John Marshal High School and became a Kodak researcher after graduating from Iowa State University. First a chemist and then a leading expert in Value Engineering and Future Forecasting, he taught graduate courses in the School of Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology. After retiring from Kodak he opened up the consulting firm Icetek focusing on water technologies.
One of his greatest gifts to the world was a core belief and approach to creativity. Dave was continually investigating and creating new solutions to complex problems. His expertise brought him around the world—South Africa, Europe, and North America—giving papers and presentations at conferences, universities and even to Arab princes. His work was published, he held patents, and published a book on "Value Engineering and Future Forecasting". No one shall ever forget the icebergs! He foresaw the global need for fresh water and in the last ten years the towing of icebergs for that purpose has become a reality.
While at Kodak in 1956, he met the love of his life Gertrude A. (Biehler) DeMarle through the Mass for Peace Catholic youth group. Dave and Trudy were married on June 16, 1956. She recently predeceased him on October 8. A devoted husband, father, brother and son, he was also an active volunteer for Saint Lawrence Parish.
He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched.
