Obituary of Wayne Erickson

March 25, 2013 at the age of 66. Wayne is survived by his wife Madeline; sister, Lynnea Erickson; son, Travis Miskinis (Shauna); grandsons Brennan and Laydan Miskinis; and Louise Erickson (aunt). Born in Kingston, NY, Wayne grew up in an Army family and lived in New York, Germany, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Mexico, Arizona, and Hawaii. After attending the University of Massachusetts, Wayne went on to graduate school at MIT and Penn State, where he earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry. He then served as an officer in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Wayne moved to Rochester where he worked as a Chemical Engineer/Researcher in film development at the Eastman Kodak Company for nearly 30 years. Wayne was a kind, conscientious, considerate man who worked hard and played hard. He earned a brown belt in karate and was an avid skier and tennis player. Wayne was active with Rochester's Huggers Ski Club, where he met his wife, Madeline. Wayne and Madeline spent many happy years playing tennis, raising champion Old English Sheepdogs, and traveling throughout the world using his photographic skills. He also dearly loved boating and spending time at their cottage on Conesus Lake. Among his family and friends, Wayne was well known for the soft spot he had for all animals, wild and domestic, and he rescued more than a few during his lifetime. Wayne faced his Parkinson's with courage, determination, and grace. We will miss him so much. A "Celebration of his Life" will be held on April 27 from 3-5 PM at Walker Brothers Funeral Home, 21 South Main St, Churchville, NY. The family wishes to thank Lifetime Care Home Hospice and VA Home Care for their help with Wayne's care during this difficult time. Donations in his memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, NY, NY 10163-4777 (print donation form at https://www.michaeljfox.org/get-involved/donation.html/), or to the Old English Sheepdog Club of America National Rescue, Marilyn Vogt, 2034 Carmont Ave, NW Massillon, OH 44647..
