My sincere sympathy to the Schroeder Family. Kerm was one of my favorite faculty members. I was the Physics secretary when we first met but years later became the Chemistry secretary also. Kerm was always easy to work with, a warm and caring man, a true gentleman. He gave me my first experience on a computer. It was one of the Wangs he and Ed Gucker used. I was good at pushing the buttons but never really understood what I was doing. RIP Kerm. Phylis Lista (aka Nielsen)

Dr Schroeder started me in my current career. While at Brockport State I never had Dr Schroeder as a professor, but I knew who he was. I was a physics major and we shared the same building. When I graduated Brockport in 1976 another Professor, Dr Gucker who I knew well from the Physics program said that he and his colleague Kermit Schroeder did computer work during their summers and there "may" be a computer consultant job opening which he thought I would be able to do. "But don't count on it, it has government funding so it may not happen anytime soon or not at all." If I was interested they would submit my name. I graduated, worked a year then got a call from a "NTID" in Rochester asking if I was interested in coming in for an interview. When I asked how they got my name he said, "Kermit Schroeder" recommended you. I scratched my head trying to place who Kermit Schroeder was. Finally I remembered that Dr Gucker had mentioned over a year ago about a possible computer job. He confirmed that Dr Schroeder was Kermit Schroeder (I never knew his first name). Needless to say, I got the job and enjoyed working with both Dr Schroeder and Dr Gucker as they guided my early career. Kermit was a wonderful friend and colleague and as I still work in the computer field he will always be remembered as one who got me started. Tom Myers

I will always treasure the fact Kermit was my friend. Growing up and running around with Pam and Dan I always felt like he cared. It took me until my 30s to feel correct calling him Kermit instead of Mr Schroeder because I respected him so much. I think what I am trying to say Even when I was little When he asked me, " Jenny, how are you doing?, he really wanted to know. And I could tell him.

We have known Kermit and Betty for 52 years. We first met when we both were in the army stationed at Dugway Utah. We were all newlyweds and had many fun times during those days. After the service, both families ironically ended up in western New York. As our families grew our friendship continued with many get togethers at one another's homes. Kermit was instrumental in securing a part time teaching position at for me (Larry) at SUNY Brockport for which I've always been grateful. We will always feel blessed to have known Kermit and his family and he will be greatly missed. Our condolences go out to all of the family.

Kermit was one of the more kind, gentle and generous persons I have met in my life. He spent many evenings tutoring me ( at his wife's request ) so that I might have some hope of passing the GRE exam. Thanks to Kermit's patience and support I did pass and have been grateful to both he and Betty ever since.

What a kind and generous man! I was a chemistry student of Dr. Schroeder in the late 60's at SUNY Brockport. Of all the professors I encountered, he was the most patient and enjoyed the art of teaching as he shared his knowledge with his students. I also recall his willingness to share his personal beliefs and love of his family with his students. I have always been grateful that he was my teacher and mentor. What a great man!

Dr. Schroeder was a great teacher and mentor. Even long after college was over he never forgot his students and made time to help and encourage us. God truly blessed all of us who knew him, for Kermit blessed us in how he cared. My career & career successes can be traced directly back to him and the opportunities that he made possible for me. I remember fondly trips to the reactor in Buffalo, writing programs on the lab blackboard with his help and mostly, him never giving up on me, even when I stumbled. The autumn weekend on Lake Winnisquam in NH with our families (wives) seems like yesterday. My condolences to the family. May God comfort you in your loss, too. We’ll all miss Kermit.

Kermit was a true gentleman. He was an avid supporter of the college and its students. He was an easy, articulate faculty member who was a delight to work with. Our college community and his family have lost a fine individual.

I have so many wonderful memories of Kermit. He was an incredible friend. He and the family welcomed me for so many years as though I were family. I turned to him for advice on many things, and he always took the time to explain and teach. He was a mensch, as we say in Yiddish: a person of noble character. I will always be grateful for having him in my life.
