Okay, just kidding...
My Pearl
When I met her we were young, the two of us just out for fun.
We met when I was home on leave and the things we did were hard to believe;
I ended up with just five days to prove that she was the only one for me.
We entered into marriage plans so far apart - she in NY and me in the southland;
The mail helped us with the chore, all the problems we had in store;
And when she came to Savannah, the wedding was oh so grand.
The first year was filled with strife, but we pulled together husband and wife;
My service duties took me to faraway places, while she was living with unfamiliar faces.
The newness of marriage was lots of fun and then we found that she would bear our son!
The prospect of a family was settling in and my service time was at an end.
So back home we traveled with many changes at every bend;
We started living in rented places - a couple of them were real disgraces;
Those are the places you have to go to help you with the money flow.
I worked tricks and thank the Lord our love was strong, because the hours were very wrong.
Pearl put up with the crazy hours as our budding family began to flower.
That's when we started with our house building plans;
The drawings were of a house we thought was just grand.
At that time I was going to college and Pearl loved to bowl, life was good and we were on a roll;
We started building the house and the pressures were taking their toll.
When we moved in it was hard to beat, with real good plumbing and steady heat.
We found the hardwood floors made us snug as a bug but Pearl had them covered with inlaid rugs.
As the kids grew Pearl got into ceramics, she needed a diversion from their childish antics.
She was good at that trade and was one of the best but teaching for 19 years became quite a pest.
We changed the whole scene and decorating eggs became the new measure; she and the girls produced many fine treasures.
As they sit here today, getting rid of the eggs is really a must as they just sit in the case collecting dust.
As I look back, in my life Pearl was a beautiful flower and I know I will miss her more with each passing hour.
