Obituary of Lorraine Fuchs
Batavia, NY- On Monday August 15th, 2011 the Lord welcomed into his heavenly fold, the soul of the late Lorraine (Wolan) Fuchs. Just shy of her 92nd birthday, Lorraine peacefully passed away in her sleep after a long and joyous life.
Lorraine was born in Lancaster, NY on August 30th, 1919. She was the 5th of six first generation Polish children born to Katherine and Walter Semenow. In 1942 she wed her husband, Stanley Wolan. Eight years later, she gave birth to their son, James. Lorraine and Stanley operated a farm on Francis Rd in Bethany for many years and later a Gulf gasoline station on Pearl St. in Batavia. Sadly, she lost her husband of eighteen years, in 1960. In the early 1970's, she met and later married, Carl Fuchs. Together the two of them ran a successful roadside tavern, "Carl and Lori's" at the corner of Wilkinson Rd and Rte 33 in West Batavia. In 1979, Lorraine and Carl retired to Florida. Lorraine continued to summer in West Batavia near her son and his family. There she enjoyed the peace and serenity of her own outdoor paradise, complete with her own substantial vegetable garden. In 1991 after many happy years together, Carl was taken from Lorraine. She continued to winter in Florida with her step sons Gary and Frank until 2006, when she returned to Western New York, to spend her final years near her son James and his children.
Lorraine is survived by her son James and her grandchildren; James and Erin.
The service will be a private family ceremony. Interment will take place at the St. Augustine Cemetery in Lancaster, NY.
