Hi Poppa, I didn't wake up crying, this morning, like I have for so many lately. Instead, I was thinking about how you had a hand in much of the establishment of Ogden, Parma, Spencerport. From creating the place where the Town Line School sits to the housing development from the bowling alley west...the times that the fire department called you (sometimes in the middle of the night) to ask if you would help them fight a fire by bringing the bulldozer in. Working at Buttonwood golf course, Dr. Rivoli's house. I was thinking about all the time we spent snowmobiling...when it felt like we got a lot more snow than we do now. As I get ready to make rainbow cookies for your grandkids...remembering Mom making them for us in the house/cottage that you built...that kept us safe and warm and dry. Thank-you, Poppa.

I am sending you this e-mail to say how much the precious memories of your Dad and family were to me, as I grew up. We as children had the best of both worlds. Awesome parents and a carefree life that met all our needs every day. And a friendship that will always pick up where ever we left off. The memories and good times will always be a part of who we are. We now have to translate that to our children. I can’t believe that my mother is the last of our 2 families left here. She was saddened to hear of Uncle Carlton’s passing. The hikes up the mountain to have lunch and run to the top and see what was over the next one, swimming on the sandbar and off the red diving board, Lots of BBQ’s and good food, the trips to Spencerport late at night and going through the big city of Toronto and the border crossings, that meant we were close to your home … My dad and yours coming home after a long day on the earthmover over at the golf course to then go out and visit your relatives, the amazing Pizza for 20 -30 people from the special shop your Dad had up off of Ridge rd , Swimming at uncle Bert’s pool , the sleeping excursions in the back of the blue and white Chevy panel van and makeshift bed your dad made for most all of us to sleep on going to the USA from the cottage late Sunday night. Building fireplaces with dad and teaching him the secrets of masonry that your dad also was awesome at…. When we received Steve’s hand me down cloths from Aunt Ethel for Rob and I. Waiting up late on Friday night for Uncle Carlton’s van to pull in. The snowmobile excursions at the sand pit behind the house, in Brockport with Steve and riding on the Panther in the deep snow up behind the tower above the mine and across the many lakes to have chili, soup and dogs ( Red Hots )back at your cottage and our house at the mine. The Partridge feast in our basement and pancake breakfasts in our basement at the mine. The boating trips on the big lake of Kasshabog as 2 families. Fireworks, fishing and catching frogs and the birthday parties and the list goes on…. This is a sad time for me as I held my uncle Carlton (and Aunt Ethel) in high regard as special people in my life. Uncle Carlton was the reason I got into the excavating business when I was younger. The smile on his face driving my loader at the lake, gave a warm feeling inside to say a little thank-you back to him for all he did for me and our family over the many years. We shall catch up on Sunday and it will be good for us to catch up …..Love Randy Cosgrove.
