Obituary of Roswell Vasbinder
Ross passed away peacefully June 5, 2011 at the age of 81. Ross was the only son and was predeceased by his parents LeRoy and Florence Vasbinder of Buffalo, NY. He was the beloved husband of 57 years of Marilyn (Stady) Vasbinder. Ross is survived by four children and their spouses Alan & Christal Vasbinder of Spencerport, Julie Nelson of Jamestown, NY, David & Rachel Vasbinder of East Aurora, NY and Peggy Vasbinder of Greece, NY; 7 grandchildren, Sherri DiPaola, Steven, Jacob, Kenny & Danny Vasbinder, John & Carly Nelson.
Ross was born in Dubois, PA but later moved with his family to Buffalo, NY. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He earned his Ed.D. in Education from the University of Rochester and then worked as an elementary school principal in the Rochester City School District until his retirement in 1985. Some of the schools he lead included School 4, 5, 25, 38 and 50. After retiring, he worked as a college recruiter for St. John Fisher College for several years. He was an adjunct Professor of the University of Rochester.
Ross was an active member of The First Congregational Church UCC in Spencerport, NY. He was also a past President of the Spencerport Lions Club. He was instrumental in organizing cycling teams each year for the Tour D' Cure, raising thousands of dollars in the fight against Diabetes.
In addition to cycling, Ross had a great love of downhill skiing and continued to ski into his 80's as a member of the Rochester Ski Club. He also loved to travel, he and Marilyn visited many countries over the years. He loved his family deeply. His family and friends will sorely miss his amazing sense of humor.
Ross's Memorial Service will be celebrated 3 PM Sunday at the First Congregational Church UCC in Spencerport. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or to the First Congregational Church, 65 Church St., Spencerport, NY 14559 in Ross' memory.
