Elsie was born to her parents, Charles and Clara Hyland in Flint Michigan. Charles and Clara moved their family to Canandaigua, where Elsie graduated from Canandaigua Academy. After moving away from Canandaigua Elsie found her way to the Rochester community where she lived in the City Proper and the suburbs of Irondequoit and Gates.
Elsie was very hard working. Her energy and drive always seemed to have herself on the go. She worked locally for Carhart, Rochester Products, Taylor Instruments and finally Eastman Kodak where she eventually ended her working career and retired.
Elsie loved all animals. She enjoyed having pets in her home especially her cats. Her soft spot for animals was evident in the many animals she ended up "adopting" either by choice or chance. While caring for strays she inevitably became attached and it always seemed another member of the family was never too much to handle.
In Elsie's younger years she was quiet and laid back. Later in life, she became much more outspoken. She became a very strong and tenacious woman.
Elsie's garden was one of her pride and joys. Her gardens were nothing short of spectacular. Her love of the outdoors was evident in the many seascape and mountain scene oil paintings she painted through the years. Her creative side was not limited to her garden and her oil paintings. She also creating many different things for family and friends while knitting.
