I began regularly attending Sunday services at Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church in 2004, if I recall correctly, and was always glad to receive a service bulletin, often from Dan, and to exchange a smile and a "Good morning!" with him. I got the impression that he may have been the leader of the ushers, who were there at their posts week after week. He always seemed to be the one who insured that everyone of the group men were there at the doorways to the sanctuary in good time so as not to be "all a-flutter" at the last moment (as one could describe it) and with some dignity and good decorum, because worship of the LORD was about to begin.
Over the years in which I was able to be involved as a member of the church, up to when I moved to Pennsylvania late in 2020, I knew that Dan was often involved as a helper with the youth ministry, especially with the annual canoeing trips to Algonquin Park for the senior high school-age groups that came along over many years. I certainly admired his continued care of the teens in this way, but he no doubt also added much to the experience with other adults each time, as well, I'm thinking. I also enjoyed chatting with him at events like the Wednesday evening suppers at church and the special breakfasts Jim Heeks and his crews would have at Christmas and Easter, or at the wonderful picnics Pearce would have almost every year.
He may have been sometimes along for other youth events like retreats with pastor(s).
In many ways and on many occasions Dan Kennedy exemplified devotion to God by being devoted to the church in North Chili, and I appreciate that perspective and great example in him for quite a long time. I am sure that he will rest securely in God's arms until that day when he meets the LORD face to face to confess Jesus as his ONLY hope, with his new perfected body.
