Churchville: Passed away suddenly on December 9, 2021 at age 83. Born May 6, 1938 in Spencerport, NY. Earl is predeceased by his parents, Earl and Rose (Neth) Ingersoll and his loving wife of 49 years, Mary (Cosgrove) Ingersoll. Survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Linda) and Timothy (Sara); his grandchildren, Stacy (Adam) Stevens, Jessica (Michael) Wagenman, Joshua (Jacquie), Patrick and Mia Ingersoll; his three great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Markus and Carl Stevens and also by his sister-in-law, Patricia Cosgrove.
Earl graduated from Spencerport High School, the University of Rochester (BA), Syracuse University (Masters) and University of Wisconsin at Madison (Doctorate of Philosophy). Earl had a long and productive career as a professor at SUNY Brockport. He finished his career as a distinguished teaching professor having chaired the university's English department. He also authored many books during his later years. He specialized in compiling collections of interviews of authors, including Margaret Atwood and Doris Lessing. One of the highlights of his writing career was to co-author a book with his wife Mary.
Earl was an avid gardener who also loved to make pickles and jam for his family.
Earl's visitation will be on Saturday December 18, 2021 from 1-3 pm followed by a brief remembrance service at the funeral home, 15 West Ave. Spencerport, All are asked to wear a mask in the funeral home. Interment private.
