Cindy was my dance teacher for a few years at Valley School when I was a teenager, and I cannot express how much fun I had in her classes. She taught me a lot, not only about dance and movement, but about having fun and confidence in myself and in my body. I looked up to her a lot more than I ever managed to tell her in person, and I was brokenhearted to hear of her sudden passing. Cindy brought a lot of joy to me in a time in my life when I was constantly feeling awkward, uncomfortable, and confused, and for a few times a week, she always managed to make me laugh and relax in dance class. I know that most of my classmates felt the same. I haven't danced in a while, but tonight, I'm going to put on some music and dance, thinking of her<3

I was so saddened to hear about Cindy’s passing. The last time I saw Cindy was right out of college and we were both living at home for a while and we met up for drinks in Spencerport. We laughed til we cried. She had such a big impact on me growing up. I feel like I lived at the McKinney’s house in grade school. We would go roller skating, play with Barbies, cabbage patch, swim in her pool, rehearse Annie a LOT, played soccer and tumbled together. She came up with most of the dance moves for our tumbling team where we’d perform at the Senior Center. (Pic below) . I know dancing was her passion and working with those kids. She’s no doubt touched many, many lives and we are all better for it. My sincere condolences to Jeff, Mr. and Mrs. McKinney and the rest of your family. You are all in my prayers.

I was so excited to get back together with Cindy and our old dance friends for our friendsgiving on Dec 5. The last time we messaged she said can’t wait to see you❤️. We had some great years dancing and some great years teaching. Her love and passion for Tap was a gift she was able to share with her students. How lucky they are to have this. I will miss your bubbly smile Cindy.

Cindy was a light to all who knew her. I had the honor of growing up with Cindy, and dancing together throughout our school years. She was a fantastic dancer and an amazing tapper. My favorite memories with Cindy, though, were the down times - the car rides, the times not dancing during our trips to NYC, backstage during rehearsals and recitals, the dinners and drinks, and the laughter. I remember a lot of laughter. Cindy had an energy that lit up any room she was in. Our world will be a bit darker without that light. I will miss you, my friend. Sending love to her family and friends. ❤️

Cindy was always a bright ray of sunshine from the moment I met her in kindergarten. I found this old photo of when we played soccer together when my dad was a coach. Although I hadn’t seen her in many years, I am deeply saddened to hear about her passing. My family is praying for Cindy’s loved ones and friends and for her beautiful soul. It has taken me this long to write something because I just can’t believe it is true. Cindy was the sweetest, kindest person. She was always so welcoming to anyone who came by her house. She always had that big, beautiful smile waiting. Cindy was the best aunt ever. I was the “pseudo-aunt” to Molly so as not to mess with Cindy’s rightful title that meant everything to her. I have some fun and funny memories about Cindy! (Don’t worry girl! I’m not telling!) Cindy my dear, Rest In Peace. I know you are with God and with Anna. Watch after her for us. I’ll miss you.

Sometimes there are people in your life that make an impact that reverberates long after your time with them. I will forever hold the image in my head of her backstage pre show, boosting the girls up and later front and center cheering them on. Dance is so much more then the art of movement - Cindy was a mentor, coworker, friend, and fellow tapper who shaped me into the educator I am today. The art of always having a smile, a big hug no matter how well you perform, exuding positive reinforcement out of your pores, and instilling and sharing your love, joy and passions with students is just a tip of the iceberg of what she passed onto me and what I strive to do for my own students every day. Her ability to bring out the best in someone and give them the confidence and opportunities to develop that skill has made me onto who I am today. Her influence is like a skipping stone that will continue on through the next generation of my students both in the classroom and the dance studio. My heart is hurting with my Valley family and the McKinney family. Thank you Cindy for all that you invested into not only me but every student under your care. I’m holding onto the mental picture of you starting up dance classes now with Anna and choreographing your first duet.

My sweet niece will always have a special place in my heart. A smile comes to my face when I think of her as a little girl. I will remember her VERY long Thanksgiving prayer, her rendition of the movie "Annie" (all of it!), and her absolute devotion to dance. As an adult, sunshine came through the door with her. Her wonderful laugh and personality made the world a better place. May God be close to my family and bring us His love as our hearts break.

My deepest condolences to Cindy’s family. I’m
so sorry for your loss you are enduring.
I remember the first day I met Cindy. I had just moved to Spencerport, and she and Judy roller skated to my house to welcome me to the neighborhood. They were my first friends in a strange, new school and I’ll never forget that. Cindy always had the funnest birthday parties and sleepovers. She was always there to help explain homework assignments. I’m a better person because of Cindy’s friendship and kindness.
The world lost a loving and caring person. I’m praying for the McKinney family’s comfort snd strength during this heartbreaking time. May Cindy rest in God’s loving arms.

To Cindy’s Family: My sincerest condolences for Cindy’s sudden passing. I am deeply in shock to learn of a beautiful person gone too soon. Cindy and I worked together at Passero Associates and shared many happy and serious discussions about careers. One of our last happy evenings was spent in my home around my Christmas tree drinking wine. May Cindy’s contagious smile, giggle, and her happy heart live on in your memory forever. Rest In Peace, dear friend!

Out of the hundreds of dancers that Miss Cindy taught, I was blessed to be one of them. She was such a beautiful light in and out of the studio and impacted so many people beyond what she ever knew. Going back 17 years when my dance journey began, Miss Cindy was there. She played such a crucial role in why I love dance so much and I am forever grateful for everything that she taught me. She was so much more than a dance teacher. She was a friend, and she was family. I am so thankful to have been able to spend all the time that I did with her dancing at my studio, and all the time I spent with her when she would come hang out at my house with my mom, who was a close friend of hers. I will remember her by her beautiful smile that brightened up the room that she entered, her talented tapping feet, intricate dance transitions and formations, long curly hair, pepsi, quarter length leggings and all her T-shirt’s that she cut the necks out of. I will cherish the deep talks and belly laughs that we shared throughout my entire life, and I will carry her legacy on along side of all the dancers that looked up to her as much as I did.
Miss Cindy, I miss you, I love you, and I know that you are up in Heaven dancing with your little Anna, teaching her how to “jump stag step ball change”. <3

Miss Cindy was one of my first dance teachers at DE and I loved her dearly because of her bubbly personality and passion for both teaching and dancing. When I began dance at Valley after a brief hiatus, Miss Cindy helped me get back on my feet & dancing again. She pushed me to become a better dancer and teammate. I will always remember the long conversations we’d have before class about what we were doing over break, what we wanted for Christmas, and even just the drama in our own lives. Miss Cindy was a friend and a mentor that I will never forget. I will always keep dancing for her.

Miss Cindy is one of the best people I have happened upon. She has taught me since I was three years old, and she gave me my passion for dance. I will never stop dancing, in honor of her. I was one of the lucky dancers who had the pleasure of Miss Cindy as my teacher. Miss Cindy was first my teacher when I was 8 years old and promised my mom she wouldn’t stop teaching until I graduated. Ten years later she kept that promise. Cindy and I had a great relationship and I will forever cherish the long night dance hours I got to spend with her. My love and support goes to her family, who I know she loved so much.
