Obituary of Jennifer L. Dodson

Jennifer Lynn Dodson was born on January 4, 1987, in Rochester, NY. She passed away on August 9, 2021 at the age of 34 after a long battle with diabetes. Though the battle was hard, it didn’t undermine the fact that she was a strong independent single mother to her sons William (14) and Jaden (12) Roots, whom she loved with all her heart.

Everyone who knew Jennifer knows that she was very dedicated and committed  to her family and friends. She carried a bright light with her everywhere she went. Being sick and aware of the impact it had on her life didn’t stop her from living a normal life and exploring all that she could to find the happiness she adored. Grudges were never really her thing. However, she was very outspoken and blunt when it came to acknowledging your faults and what you could do better to change. She even told you whether or not the outfit you thought was the best, was ugly (LOL). She looked out for others before herself. She had the most beautiful voice, singing all day and night. Music was her forte and it was exciting hearing her pull up in front of the house with the music blasting from her car — these things, we all will miss. 

Jennifer is survived by her father, Jose Fontan and step-mother Cynthia A. Fontan, mother Barbara Dodson and the mother that raised her, Nilda Cordova, her sister Cynthia Fontan, and brothers Warren and John Dodson, and her sons William and Jaden Roots. Jennifer leaves behind her loving aunt Brenda, a host of  uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Gloria Dodson. 

The viewing will be held on Friday, August 13, from 4 PM - 8 PM at Walker Brothers Funeral Home, 15 West Ave, Spencerport, NY 14559. 

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 9:30 AM at Holy Apostles Church, 7 Austin St, Rochester, NY 14606. Immediately following service we will proceed to Jennifer’s final resting place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 2461 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612.
