Dear Cousins and family, The news uncle John passed away did not came as a surprise and it made me a little sad to know he died in this strange time with so many restrictions at the nursing home. Uncle John told me during a visit in Vught at Pim's home that he did not really knew our mother, his little sister Corrie. It all had to do with the fact their father died at early age in 1939. Uncle John helped oma a lot and became with uncle Arie the ones who generated the income for the household. My mother was very gratefull for that and she expressed this to both her brothers during their lives. But that came with a price. Uncle John got na lot of responsibilities at early age it must have been tough. I remember him as a kind man and I am thankfull to have met him a few times. 96 years old, a respectable age. I hope you all will have peace with the fact. A lifetime of almost a century, he was whitness of his grandfather with the first car in the small village of ‘t Veld and he saw all of the changes we had until now. All history. Just like he is now. A man who tried his best. A man who had to go through some tough day’s, weeks, months and years in his lifetime. May he rest in peace.

To the Family: Sincere Sympathy
Mr. Baker often ambled carefully with cane along the Lyell Avenue sidewalk.
Always ready for a pleasant chat about good things in life: family & friends...
He was a welcome member of the "Guys Table" at the Ogden Senior Center. Rest in Peace, Mr. Baker.
With Fond Memories, your Neighbors, ~Carol Nellis-Ewell & Harry Ewell~

Dear family Baker, relatives and friends,
We remember ome Jan of uncle John as a warm person.
At our vacancy's at the USA, we felt home at his house with aunt Jean.
He was interested and a kind person for us and the children.
In his long life he had ups, but also deep downs, with the lost of those who were very near at him.
But if you look back, he's done a great job! ;-)
He and Aunt Jean will always in our heart.
Love Annie, Per, Arja, Leroy and Elise

Dear family,
Our condolences for all of you. I think ome Jan became the oldest Baker ever. When this message came to me, i whas thinking about the lives of oma Jansie and her son Jan, both lost their partner and Jan his daughter, the partners that where so much needed, that parallel made a tear roll from my eyes....Both had not an easy life, once when John visit us, i asked him about the emigration, his answer, now i see what life is like in Holland, i would never make that decision again. That whas een honest answer, what scares me, what did i ask again. Everyone wants the best for his family, makes choices, and lives his live. Whe have good memories to that uncle in far away America Whis you all the best, Margreet Wever

Grandma on the ship to America
A helping hand and spirit
The special stories
The intense history
That was part of you
The love that was there
The love that wasn't there
This is what I was told
To survive To stay or go
American cousins
On the flower bed
Under the Dutch clouds
An American visit
Was always an event
My memories
Linked only to the encounter
For the rest only of telling
Through the mouths of travelers
So abstract and so connected
In the knowledge
Of your being
Uncle Jan, I wish you
a peaceful journey.

Dear Baker family,
We remind ome Jan or uncle John as a warm person who allways asked how you where doing.
Interested, loving and we had always a warm welcome in Spencerport.
I add some foto's from our holidays in the USA.
We are lucky, he had long time with us.
96 years, I don't think we will beat him.
I'm sure, he looks from above with a big smile.
We are proud what he has done and raised through his whole life.
He and aunt Jean are always in our hart.
Love Annie, Per, Arja, Leroy and Elise Bakker

Sending our love and virtual hugs from across the border. As a child I have wonderful memories of coming to the USA to celebrate Great Uncle John's birthday with all our extended stateside family, and getting to know him and Great Aunt Jean as we grew older meant many more lovely memories of happy visits on the Canadian side of the border. Now I have my husband sharing the August 2 birthday, so we will still be remembering Great Uncle John with joy when celebrating birthdays. With you in spirit and prayer as you mourn his passing and as you celebrate his memory. Love: Rachel, Martin, and Arianne Reid

Dear cousins and families, I alwais felt special when my tall, proud, American uncle, spoke out my name the English way: “John”. How different compared to the Dutch “Sjon” More than often when someone says “John”, my uncle John passes my mind in a split second. I’m sorry to have heard my uncle had passed away, it’s a sad loss even though his special age. I wish all my cousins they keep the good and special memories of their father and wish everyone peacefull thoughts. John Bakker (this time with double “K”)

To all the cousins and their families: Please accept our thoughts and prayers on Ome Jan's passing. His loss signals the end of an era. We always looked forward to his visits, whether on this side of the border, or the US side. His friendly, cheerful nature and his
"Unique" sense of humour will be sorely missed, but the memories will live on. The border restrictions prevent us from visiting now and paying our respects, but please rest assured our thoughts are with you all. Some words from the Grace after meals come to mind, and we can hear his voice...."May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace, Amen"
Rest in peace, Uncle John.
Love to all, Sylvia and Tom Littlle
