Very sorry to hear of Dennis's passing. I knew him intermittently in the early Magic the Gathering days in Rochester NY, and you will have to forgive the following memory... but it's all in good memory for me. I (Don White) ran independent tournaments, apart from official DCI tournaments for around 3 years +. (They never gave enough prizes, but I tried!) 1994 to 1997. We met perhaps for the 2nd or 3rd time at my very local tourney (Upstate Events) in North Greece at a forgettable store, but I knew who he was. For fun he proposed a match, but my means and experience paled to his, so I counter-proposed a 'commons only match'. Which I won. Believe me, my Kird Ape deck winning was a lucky but memorable moment in my 'Magic Life', and in all times we spoke, he was always nice. He gave me one moment of greatness, in the game, which mattered for zilch compared to his career in the game. I am just plain lucky, to be able to talk about that day. He called me the 'perennial trader', and I'm sure that anyone reading this and knew us in the day may have a few blanks filled in... questions answered.... Anyway, this was all I knew of the man, but I testify he was a nice person to know, and that he had a smile that brightened the room. God bless to he and his. Sincerely, Donald L White.

I met Dennis in 1996 at a local Magic tournament here in Toronto. He defeated me, and in doing so, I learned one of the fundamental strategies of Magic and literally became a better player overnight.
Through a shared friend, we got to know each other over the years playing Magic including a memorable late night in a roadside restaurant where he played another friend a match of Magic for the most expensive card in the game (I believe he won).
Dennis was very friendly and warm, and lacked the arrogance of many (younger) Magic players at the time. I was truly saddened when I learned of his passing.

I had the pleasure of knowing Dennis back at the start of both our Magic careers and sponsored him at the beginning of the Pro Tour way back in 1996/97. He was a fierce competitor and a wonderfully warm person. My sympathies to his friends and family.

A legend in our area. He was the first person from Rochester to succeed nationally at his highly competitive game. Worth every minute spent with him.
