Jean Elizabeth White was born July 16, 1924 in Rochester, NY, the second of three daughters for Harold and Elizabeth White. She had an older sister Dorothy and a younger sister Mary Ellen. Jean graduated from East High School in 1941 and was married the following January to her husband Richard. They had six children. Mary Jean, James Richard, Thomas Harold, Kathleen Mary, Joseph Andrew and Anne Marie. She suffered the loss of Thomas when he passed away at age 6 months. In 1955 they moved to their home in Spencerport, NY and have resided there ever since. Jean and Richard spent a total of 75 years together, and were only parted for 6 months while Dick served in the Navy and a couple of weeks when each of them traveled independently. Other than those times, they were never apart. Jean devoted her life to her family. First six children, then 11 grandchildren and finally 19 great grandchildren. She sewed clothes for nearly all of them, the youngest getting the hand me downs. She baked millions of cookies over the years and thousands of pies! All of her grandchildren looked forward to those pies and cookies! OH! AND MACARONI AND CHEESE! We can’t forget her magnificent Mac & Cheese! Some of the kids even insisted on having it at their weddings and other special events!! And she was a consummate game player. Few could beat her at Scrabble, Yahtzee, Fill r Bust or Rummicube! She holds the title of highest scores ever in both Scrabble and Yahtzee!! Jean retired from the Spencerport Central School District after 13 years of service as a lunchroom cashier and a bus driver for disabled children, whom she came to love and they to love her. Sometimes, she would be babysitting a grandchild and take them to work with her on the bus. She was an amazing 90-year-old, when finally, her body began to give up the fight. She still managed to return to mediocre health after two bouts of pneumonia last year, continuing to do her baking, even as her eyesight waned as well. Katie moved in with Jean 7 months ago, to help her along, but Jean was still able to remain home alone during the day while Kate worked full time up until last week. Jean Elizabeth Kent had a passion for living life to the fullest. “When I go down…I’m going down fighting!” And That She Did! This woman, this mother, this grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor is going to be greatly missed. Until we see her beautiful face again…..God Bless our sweet Mama. Walk In My Shoes Anthology Project By Amanda Hull If 1 Could If I could walk in my grandmother's shoes, I would go back in time to my grandmother's past. If I could, I would live out my life at my grandmother's side. I would love to see what her life was like and do the things she used to do, if I could walk in my grandmother's shoes. It would be nice to find out what her friends were like and also what she was like too. We would do the things friends used to do. We'd laugh and cry as the years went by. I would like to see what she used to see and eat what she used to eat. If I could live out my whole life with my grandmother, I think she would be my best friend. She would be like my sister because we'd know each other so well. We would share secrets that no one else knew and do stuff that no one else could do, if I could walk in my grandmother's shoes. We would have a great life as we shared it together, through rain and shine and all sorts of weather. We would do things together and have so much fun! My grandmother and me, together as one.
